The 32-year-old injured himself in a clash on the outer meniscus in the clear opening win against Uruguay (43:14) and will travel back to Germany, as the German Handball Federation (DHB) announced. National coach Alfred Gislason will replace him with Patrick Groetzki from the Rhein-Neckar Löwen. “I’m sorry for Tobias Reichmann,” said Gislason. “But with Patrick Groetzki we have a strong option. He will find his way into the team quickly.”
The 31-year-old will soon be flying to Cairo and, after another negative corona test, will probably be available in the final preliminary round match of the DHB selection against Hungary on Tuesday. How long Reichmann would be out was initially unclear. As his club MT Melsungen announced, the 2016 European champion will be operated on in his home country.
